SEABOB F5 S: specs, speed and battery

The mid model of the discontinued F5 series — 4.0 kW, 680 N of thrust and up to 20 km/h, a genuine step up from the F5 without the F5 SR's price.

Updated 20 October 2026

The SEABOB F5 S is the middle model of Cayago's F5 series: a 4.0 kW motor delivering 680 N of thrust, up to 20 km/h on the surface, and a diving depth settable from the default 2.5 m up to 40 m. It weighs about 34 kg.

It was the best-selling member of the family in its day — the step up most riders wanted over the entry F5, without the F5 SR's cameras and premium price. Like the whole F5 series, however, it is now discontinued and no longer appears in Cayago's current price list.

Below are the official specifications, the battery and runtime, the 40 m depth capability, why the series ended, and who the F5 S still suits. For the differences between all three, see F5, F5 S and F5 SR compared.

The F5 S in one paragraph

The F5 S sits between the entry F5 and the range-topping F5 SR. It keeps the F5's basic body and 40 m depth capability, but swaps in a substantially more powerful 4.0 kW motor with 6 power levels, lifting surface speed to 20 km/h and underwater speed to 18 km/h. In practice that is the difference between cruising and actually feeling the pull of a performance Seabob.

It is also discontinued, which means the real-world questions are condition, battery health and where the unit has been. The F5 S remains a very capable machine — 680 N of thrust is close to the current F9's output — and it is the model most often encountered both in rental fleets and on the used market.

The official sheet does not quote a rated top speed; the figures above are the 'up to' values from the manufacturer's technical data.

Battery and real-world runtime

The F5 S runs on a 48 V, 36 Ah battery with a 1.55 kWh capacity — noticeably larger than the F5's 1.1 kWh — giving an average operating time of about 60 minutes. As always, sustained top-level riding and cold water pull that figure down.

Charging is where the series shows its age. A full standard charge takes about 7 hours, with the quick charger cutting it to roughly 1.5 hours. On a rental unit that turns over daily, the long standard charge is why spare batteries were the norm rather than the exception.

Diving depth: 2.5 m by default, up to 40 m

Out of the box the F5 S depth cut-off is 2.5 m, the safe default for casual riding. Through the settings menu it can be raised to 40 m — the same maximum as the F5 and F5 SR, and deeper than the current F9's 25 m ceiling.

Raising it is not a casual change. Diving beyond 2.5 m should only be done by divers with a valid licence or with a qualified instructor, and never alone. The motor cuts out past the set depth and restarts only above it, and the depth sensor is a limit switch rather than a calibrated dive gauge.

For most owners the point is simple: the F5 S carries the full 40 m capability of the family, but most of its life is spent at the surface where its 20 km/h and 680 N of thrust are the point.

Why the F5 series was discontinued

Cayago's current price list covers the F9, F9 S and SE63 only; the F5 family has been removed. New F5 S units are no longer produced, so what remains in dealers is old stock and most surviving machines now circulate used or in rental fleets.

The last official F5 list we hold dates from July 2020, when the F5 S was listed at 12,504.80 EUR gross in Germany. Treat that as historical reference only — it says nothing about today's used or rental value, and we don't quote it as a current price.

Discontinued does not mean unsupported: parts, battery re-celling and repairs are all still available, and we service F5 S units regardless of where they were bought.

Who the F5 S still suits

  • Riders who want real pace — 20 km/h on the surface and 680 N of thrust is a genuine performance step over the F5, close to the current F9.
  • Rental fleets — the F5 S was the premium rental option, fast enough to thrill guests while staying forgiving with its six power levels.
  • Used buyers after the best value — a well-kept F5 S often offers more performance per lira than any new Seabob, provided the battery is healthy.
  • Yacht and charter owners — big enough to be a highlight on a day out, still portable enough to live on a tender.

Want the absolute top of the F5 series, with the two-camera SEABOB Cam? That's the F5 SR. Prefer the lighter, gentler entry model? That's the F5.

FAQ

SEABOB F5 S questions

What people actually ask about the F5 S.

How fast is the SEABOB F5 S?

Up to 20 km/h over water and 18 km/h under water, from a 4.0 kW motor with 680 N of thrust and 6 power levels. It is a clear step up from the entry F5's 14 km/h.

How deep can the SEABOB F5 S dive?

The depth cut-off is 2.5 m by default and can be set up to 40 m through the settings menu. Diving beyond 2.5 m is only for divers with a licence or with a qualified instructor, and never alone.

How long does the F5 S battery last?

About 60 minutes of average operation on the 1.55 kWh (48 V, 36 Ah) battery. A full standard charge takes about 7 hours, and the quick charger brings it down to roughly 1.5 hours.

Is the SEABOB F5 S still being made?

No. The whole F5 series is discontinued and no longer appears in Cayago's current price list. Today the F5 S is found mainly used or in rental fleets. The last official list we hold is from July 2020.

What is the difference between the F5 S and the F5?

The F5 S has a more powerful 4.0 kW motor and 680 N of thrust versus the F5's 2.5 kW and 480 N, six power levels instead of four, and a top speed of 20 km/h versus 14 km/h. It also weighs more, at about 34 kg versus 29 kg.

What is the difference between the F5 S and the F5 SR?

The F5 SR is the top of the series: 4.5 kW, 745 N of thrust and 22 km/h, and it comes as standard with the SEABOB Cam — two full-HD cameras — and two rear fins. The F5 S has 4.0 kW, 680 N, 20 km/h and no standard cameras.
